The Confluence Natural Area is a 270-acre preserve open for low-impact recreational uses, such as hiking along 2.25 miles of trail, picnicking, and photography.

Saxapahaw Island Park spans 30 acres and features walking trails, a playground, and a meadow in addition to nearby river access. The park’s playground features a huge, one of a kind wooden fish slide that measures from head to fin 45 feet long. It stands 10 feet tall, is 8 feet wide and weighs six tons.

Seven Mile Creek Natural Area contains over two miles of trails.

Shallow Ford Natural Area is a 190 acre natural area featuring approximately 5 miles of hiking trails, paddle access to the Haw River, a Wildflower Meadow and Observation Deck, picnic areas, and backcountry camping. It is part of the Haw River Trail/Mountains-to-Sea Trail (HRT/MST).
