Mission Statement: Haw River Mushrooms, LLC is dedicated to bringing the flavors, textures, and stories of culinary mushrooms to a larger audience. We believe that thinking mycologically leads to acting ecologically and that an appreciation for mushrooms opens doors to understanding fungi's many rolls in preserving and restoring our environment. Whether adding magic to the dinner plate or restoring a sense of wonder in our natural world, we hope our brand leaves people with the feeling that mushrooms are delicious, interesting, accessible and fun."
Haw River Mushrooms has been growing mushrooms since 2012. Founded by Ches & Laura Stewart, we began by growing mushrooms on logs, then expanded to growing on straw bags hung in a high tunnel. In 2016, with the support of an $8,000 grant from the Rural Advancement Foundation and the NC Tobacco Trust Fund, we made the leap to becoming full time farmers and built a year-round indoor grow facility in a shipping container. Each year we've continued to grow, and we have expanded our line-up to include award winning prepared food products including oyster Mushroom Jerky, Lions Mane "Crab" Cakes, Umami Mushroom salts and seasonings, with many more products in the works. We are grateful to the farmers markets, community members, small restaurants and grocers who have supported our steady growth over the years, and hope to be your go-to place for fungus fun.
