My daughter and I recently attended one of Sweet Girl Bakes NC's 'Parent & Me' classes which was so fun! It was a really enjoyable one-on-one bonding activity for us and we learned a lot to apply to our future baking. Plus, we walked away with several extra treats in addition to the cookies. Where classes are held:
The monthly cookie classes are held on Saturday afternoons at Shuffle N Roll in downtown Mebane. It is a great venue with plenty of room for the class, parking right outside, an easy access bathroom, and affordable snacks and drinks for sale including kid favorites like goldfish and chips.

What to expect during class:
April, who grew up in Mebane learned how to bake from her grandmother and great-grandmother and has been in the baking industry for years. She is very knowledgeable and a great teacher. She had all items prepped and ready for us and walked us through step-by-step. It seems like cookies this fancy and pretty would be too hard to do for a grown up, much less a little kid, but she broke it down so well that it truly is doable for anyone, even someone without any experience.
While my daughter and I bake a lot, we don't usually do anything this fancy. But now that we learned so many tips from April, we feel more confident to give fancy decorating like this a try on our own. I was impressed with how well my daughter caught on with April's great instructions.

My favorite part was that April encouraged us to be creative and have fun without worrying about "doing it just right". She said they didn't need to look perfect and told us ways we could fix any decorating mistakes or just eat the cookie :)
The girl sitting beside us really embraced that and, by the end of the class, she wasn't even trying to follow the example cookies. Instead she was having fun mixing colors and adding extra marshmallows. I loved it because she was really making the cookies her own *and* she inspired my daughter to do the same. You can see above how our finished product cookies had a lot of personality and, below, you can see the beaming smile of my daughter who was so proud to show off her finished set.

- There is a ton of leftover icing you get to take home with you and it is good in the fridge for a week (or longer in the freezer) to use on other cookies. April does this intentionally so you don't have to worry about running out during class and so you can apply the icing techniques you learn in her class to keep up the cookie decorating fun at home.
