Spring Fun at Dinner Bell Farm: Nature-Based Play at the Pace of Kids

By Sarah Williams, Publisher for Macaroni KID Burlington-Hillsborough, NC March 19, 2025

Are you looking to get out to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and nature as things are warming up? Would you like hands on fun for your family while supporting a local farm? Look no further than Dinner Bell Farm located in Snow Camp.

Why to Visit & What to Expect: Nature-based Play at the Pace of Kids

My daughter and I recently had a wonderful afternoon there where we had the chance to tour the farm, pet the animals, and hear about all the fun things the farm offers, many of which are geared for kids and families. In addition to what you'd expect like growing food and offering a CSA, they also offer a lot of kid-focused opportunities including birthday parties, field trips, summer camp, and more

Below, you can read on to see what fun things they have in store for this spring followed by year-round opportunities they provide. But first, here's a little bit about why to visit and what to expect from this particular farm. We were hosted by Farmer Stephanie and her 6 year old granddaughter who showed us around and shared about all they do.

Farmer Stephanie said "Children love to be outside, in nature, and with the animals. Farm entertainment-based activities like trains, balloons, cotton candy, etc. are not the goal of the farm. Instead, Dinner Bell is very natural based, focused on experience and connection with the farm, wildlife, and nature."

She added, "that type of engagement with nature is not always available in kids lives and it is memorable. We go at the pace of kids and let them just enjoy time out on the farm."

My daughter and I very much felt that there. It was a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle, the screens, and the distraction of daily life. My daughter's focus was zeroed in on the animals and finding her own fun with Stephanie's granddaughter which included enjoying the tree swing and creative water play, splashing in the goats' water bin. She had so much fun, got a lot of energy out, and enjoyed connecting with the animals and a new friend.

We hope you and your family enjoy a visit out there soon to enjoy a peaceful day in nature and play at the pace of kids. If you do stop by, be sure to let them know you heard about them from Macaroni KID!
